Meet Maye-Day: A New In-House Cross Enters the Floral Realm

Every once in a while, a new cultivar comes out of the grow that makes you stop and take a second look.

With Maye-Day, that happened before we even got it out of the jar.

This new addition to the Floral Realm is an in-house Garden Remedies cross of Grape Crostata x Shady Grape 8, born from our Winter Bounty Hunt and selected by our genetics team as one of the cultivars worth bringing into the Realm lineup.

And yes, the name Maye-Day may sound a little familiar to anyone who spent this winter watching football around New England.

Grape Crostata x Shady Grape 8

Maye-Day brings together two grape-forward genetics in Grape Crostata and Shady Grape 8, but the finished flower might not look exactly how you'd expect.

Crack open the jar and you're greeted by large, soft green flowers. While grape genetics can sometimes bring to mind deep purples and darker coloration, Maye-Day stays predominantly green, something we've noticed across several selections within our Floral Realm.

Then comes the aroma.

Our first unboxing revealed a delicate lemongrass character with a hazy note lingering behind it. It's bright and interesting without becoming overpowering, fitting naturally into the aromatic characteristics we're looking for when selecting flower for the Floral Realm.

The batch we unboxed came in at 27.45% THC with 3.01% total terpenes, but as always, potency and terpene results can vary from harvest to harvest.

And then there was the nug.

It was enormous.

Big enough that grinding the whole thing felt almost disrespectful. A little from the bottom, a little from the top, and a little from the middle gave us everything we needed to get acquainted.

Rather than asking you to memorize an endless list of cultivars and genetics, Realm gives you five places to start exploring: Sweet, Fruit, Floral, Fuel, and Earth.

Maye-Day found its home in Floral.

Expect those lighter, aromatic characteristics to lead the experience, with its delicate lemongrass aroma and hazy finish making this one of the more interesting new selections to emerge from our grow.

Born From the Winter Bounty Hunt

Maye-Day didn't appear out of nowhere.

It's part of the work happening behind the scenes with the Garden Remedies genetics team, where new crosses are grown, evaluated, compared, and narrowed down before the best selections ever reach a jar.

Our Winter Bounty Hunt produced new selections across several Realms, and the results have given our team plenty to be excited about.

Sweet. Floral. Earth.

Across the board, we're seeing cultivars with distinct personalities that show just how much variation can come from thoughtful breeding and selection.

Maye-Day is another piece of that story.

What Does "In-House Cross" Mean?

When we call Maye-Day an in-house cross, we mean the genetics were crossed and selected right here at Garden Remedies.

That gives our cultivation and genetics teams an opportunity to search for characteristics we find particularly interesting, whether that's flower structure, aroma, terpene expression, or the way a plant performs throughout cultivation.

Not every seed becomes a cultivar.

Finding something special takes time, observation, and plenty of plants. That's part of what makes seeing a new selection reach the finish line so exciting.

For the people who grow it, it's the culmination of months of work.

For everyone else, it's a brand-new jar to crack open.
